How to Work on eBay

The key strategy to eBay success – which is exactly the same as for any other kind of trading – is buy low and sell high. This may be stating the obvious, but it illustrates the two main tactics you can use to achieve eBay success.

The first is to find auctions where you can acquire an item for below it’s market value, and then resell that item at a profit, either through ebay or in some other marketplace.

The second is to find products you can source below their market value elsewhere and sell those on eBay at a profit.

How to work on eBay finding ‘Underpriced Auctions’

The secret to eBay success with this method lies in the fact that some ‘eBayers’ just aren’t so good at listing their item in a way that gets them the highest price – or maybe they just don’t want to take the time.

Despite all the user guides on the subject, some people just don’t pay enough attention when setting up their auction – the mis-spell the item description, they don’t give enough detail, the use poor, or even worse, no, photographs. All those kinds of things mean that their auction doesn’t acheive the best possible price and the item sells below it’s market value.

Other people – maybe those clearing a garage or an attic – don’t know the full value of an item, or maybe just want cash for the minimum effort, and are just happy to raise some cash asa quickly as possible.

There are various tools and techniques that can be employed be those who know how to work on eBay to exploit this kind of situation to their advantage, and allow them to buy an item bleow its value and resell it at a profit.

How to work on eBay as a ‘power seller’

With the second kind of eBay success tactic, there are a few techniques that those who know how to work on eBay use to make a comfortable living – selling items on eBay that they have sourced at a low cost from elsewhere.

One such technique is ‘Dropshipping’. With dropshipping, you sell an item that you’ve agreed to buy from a ‘dropshipper’ without taking delivery of the item first. The dropshipper is usually the importer or manufacturer of the item.

You sell the product and receive payment from the buyer. You then pay the dropshipper to deliver the product directly to the buyer, usually with your ‘badged’ invoice or or other documentation.

Dropshipping is a completely legal win-win situation. The benefit to you is you only pay for items you’ve already sold, reducing your funding requirements. The benefit to the dropshipper – who we’ve already said is usually an importer or manufacturer – is that the don’t have to own and manage a retail operation because you do that for them. And the benefit to the buyer is that they get their purchase at a bargain price as there are fewer ‘middlemen’ and overheads to be paid for in the supply chain.
